Photoshop

Safari is the default programme installed on a Mac PC used for browsing the internet. The programme was an essential piece of software used when creating the research and planning on my blog, needed to provide a basis and development of my media products development as I progressed using Blogger, the platform my research and planning resides on,. The programme also played host to Wix, the site I used to create one of my products, the Website, and this evaluation post. As well as this, without the programme I would of been unable to access a number of the online resources used to present my work such as Prezi, Powtoon, Youtube, Emaze, Pinterest and Facebook.

"The programs and other operating information used by a computer."

Without the software below, the creation of my media products would of been impossible. Modern software and its technological advancements since computing began have developed drastically in recent years. The accessibility of such software has thus allowed me and countless others to create.

What is Software?

Photoshop is undoubtedly one of the biggest contributing programmes in relation to the creation of my media products. Without the programme I would of been unable to edit my images to a professional standard and produce work capable of making it onto the media market and with the ability to compete with already existing media products. Because the program runs using a Layering method it meant it was easy to organize and group the different sections of my product. This also meant I could put things above and below each other, or blend layers. It also allowed for mistakes to be deleted in individual layers opposed to the whole thing and being forced to start again.

When looking at my images in the post production stages I felt because they were taken in a studio and with a professional Digital-SLR camera they already reached a standard  of professionalism which was almost ready to publish without the processing. To ensure they reached their maximum potential I used a tool from the programmes vast range of editing software such as "Spot Healing" and "Clone Tool" to remove spots, blemishes and annoying or distracting marks on the images. This created a look similar to professional magazines which often promote a flawless model with little or no distractions.

BILLBOARD

Not only was Photoshop used for editing images, the programme also played a pivotal role in the creation, layout and ability to style my Billboard. The unique look of my billboard helped it stand out and draw audiences attentions, created in Photoshop using the shapes section of the programme which without, I would of struggled to create such a bold ancillary product. The different shapes options meant I was able to create the multiple image borders and provide a larger insight into what my product has to offfer which can be compared to other national magazine billboard which are undeniably more simple and less informative. Looking at the billboard on the right I feel my product follows similar conventions although on a more minimal scale. The vogue billboard uses an issue of its magazine for its dominant image although I used a variety of images which were relevant to my product. The text I used on my product was smaller but for the important information the font was a lot larger, particularly for things such as my masthead (similar to vogue).

FRONT COVER

Photoshop, as previously mentioned, played a pivotal role in the creation of my products. The font cover and the theme it followed would of been impossible to achieve without the help of photoshop and the tools used. Starting at the top of my magazine, the masthead was created using the text tool of photoshop, adding and resizing the text to a professional size and look. The Graphic Illustration on the top left corner was also created using photoshop. Using the wand tool on the original image of the illustration I was able to select the area I wanted to use on my own work, copy it and then place it into my own work. Using the wand was a difficult task as it required copious amounts of time to go through all of the details and select them, however, it was worth it in the end. Tools like the spot healing tool and clone tool were also vitally important for the editing of my dominant image. They allowed me to remove marks and blemishes from my model in a professional and unnoticeable way. Other important features used in the creation and editing of my front cover were things like the curves layer and the brightness.contrast tools, available in the adjustments panel on the right. The tools allowed me make sublet changes to the tones and lightning of my images, if they appeared too over or under exposed I was able to combat this using these tools, again important when creating a professional looking image.

Compared to an existing media product, I feel my front cover looked quite similar and professional. I feel the product managed to use similar conventions seen in other popular regional magazines, sticking with the minimal yet professional look. I feel the magazine on the right and my own follow a number of similar conventions, mainly the layout and style. The masthead follows a very similar creative and attractive style, achieved in photoshop.

CONTENTS

The contents page was the second page in my magazine. The contents page is an essential page in a magazine as it helps the navigation of your product as well as advertises what is inside. I used photoshop to create this page too.

I didn't want the layout of this page to appear too complicated. I used Photoshop to create the different sections of the page. The layout was fairly similar, using things such as the shapes tool in a similar way to that of the billboard, creating the border for my contents which framed everything. The shapes tool also allowed me to define the shape for my images. By using the layer section I was able to double and replicate the shape I wanted my photos to appear as, making a guide. Tools like the marquee tool allowed me to shape my actual images when they were overlaid onto the shapes. Simple adjustments like opacity allowed me to see through my images when lowered to ensure they were in the right position and meant I was able to see the guide shapes below, ensuring I cut them all to the correct and same size. I also particularly enjoyed working on things such as the individual sections of my product and the development that took place through my own intuition and through peer and audience feedback. Changing features such as the unique colour scheme throughout to create the individual sections

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

My double page spread used a variety of different photoshop elements to bring me to my final product. Using photoshop I was able to use tools such as "Shapes" and "Fill" to create my unique main sell line. As on many of the other pages, tools such as the wand came particularly in handy as they gave me the ability to cut out the graphics which were vital for my theme. The butterflies were cut out for this page and I used the layers tool provided by the program to use the same corner from the front cover. I was also able to use tools such as the spot healing tool and clone tool to ensure my dominant image was to industry standard, removing marks and blemishes from my models face to provide a professional and flawless look. Using photoshops adjustments section I was able to easily adjust and change things such as the brightness and or exposure of my images, as well as brightening colours etc.

WEBSITE

For the website I did not use photoshop very much as the software/program I used was external and came with its own options for creating and adding things. Photoshop was used for the editing of the images I uploaded. For example, I was able to use the tools to create the fashion styled images on my home page and then upload them.

Using online sites like blogger was also an essential when creating my products. The site allowed me to record my progress as I developed my ideas and products, recording in y time management any changes and progression I had made . This meant I had a record which I was able to follow and use when developing my final product. My posts were recorded using labels, using names such as Inspirations, Time Management, Similar products and more I was able to store, upload and organise my work in a way which meant things were easy to find when I needed them.

Wix was one of the sites that I used multiple times throughout my work. The website creator allowed me to develop my own media website, a product which relates to my other products. The professional website creator gave me the ability to create a product and this evaluation question. The gave me a creative space in which I was able to develop my own product with the help of their templates and tools, giving me the opportunity ti add different images, image templates, music and videos to my website. The addition of these meant I was able to personalise my product so that it was targeted towards my target audience. The simple and easy to use site was an essential piece of software which without I would of been unable to crate my product or this evaluation.

When creating my research and planning on blogger I wanted to ensure I used media rich formats when recording my progress, this showed my different skills and knowledge of online programmes and also allowed my work to look more creative and interesting. Sites like Powtoon allowed me to create slideshows of my work as I progressed, recording my separate tasks in different styles each time.

YouTube was also an interesting site to use when recording my progress The site allowed me to create and upload videos which I was then able to embed onto my research and planning blog. YouTube was a more advanced and time consuming way to record my work, however, the results were worth it as they looked very professional and again showed my advanced knowledge of online programmes and my ability to adapt to use different media rich formats.
